"The magic of the duo! Cure Magical!"
Riko Izayoi is a 13-year-old student, magician, and deuteragonist of the series. A perfectionist, Riko wants to be the very best at magic, although she is not naturally talented at it. Her life takes a turn when she journeys to the Mundane World in search of the Linkle Stone Emerald and encounters Mirai Asahina, who has always wanted to meet a magician. After an encounter with the first antagonist of the series, the two work together and become Pretty Cure.
Riko is initially annoyed by Mirai's talent for magic, but she quickly works to overcome it and grow stronger alongside Mirai at the Magic School. Together they also raise the infant fairy Ha-chan and work to find the Linkle Stones needed to prevent a prophesied calamity.
As Cure Magical, Riko's costume is themed around the color purple, and has a clear star motif. She also gains access to four different elemental-themed forms using the Linkle Stones, as well as an additional upgraded form used later in the series.
SPOILER: In the finale of the series, the Magic World and Mundane World are forced together so that the ultimate antagonist, Deusmast, can destroy both of them. With Deusmast's defeat, the worlds begin to drift away again. Riko tearfully makes the decision to go back to the Magic World, promising to find a way to connect the two worlds once again.
After a 6 year gap, Riko finally reunites with Mirai, bringing Magic back to the Mundane World.
